Pain

CBD has been publicized over the past year. The reason may not be unconnected with its role in managing pain and controlling seizures. Cannabidiol is one of the most common cannabinoids obtained from medicinal marijuana. However, CBD is non-psychoactive like THC.  This implies that it does not make the users feel high.  However, research studies have revealed that CBD is capable of playing an important role in managing pain.

Initial injuries can cause pain. This is likely to include back sprain arising from a prolonged illness which causes weakness. Other predisposing factors of pain include sleep disturbances, fatigue, and decreased appetite. Though causes of chronic pain are yet to be known, brain chemicals which help in stopping pain following recovery from an illness or injury may not be functioning properly.

How CBD Works as a Pain Reliever

The ECS (endocannabinoid system) is the system of massager in the body. This system is responsible for regulating a number of functions and it is suspected to play a role in the regulation of pain. Cannabinoid and endocannabinoids receptors are located in the circuits of pain from the endings of the peripheral sensory nerve to the brain. Agonist cannabinoids attach to these receptors and ultimately stimulate the release of neurotransmitters which transmit a signal to the body resulting in pain. Antagonist cannabinoids, including CBD, do not attach to these receptors. Instead, they hinder the release of neurotransmitters.   As a matter of fact, CBD has been confirmed to hinder the activities of pro-inflammatory molecules and regulate the nociceptive thresholds. Therefore, CBD has therapeutic effects against inflammatory and neuropathic pains.

CBD for Chronic Pain

CBD is made use of as a therapeutic support for persistent pain when sleep aids and other painkillers fail to produce positive results. It offers pain relief as well as health benefits to people who are undergoing chronic pain.

  • Chronic Inflammation

Chronic inflammation is likely to damage tissues, thereby causing pain. CBD functions as an anti-inflammatory agent. It offers a temporary cure and in other instances, it offers a permanent solution. Furthermore, it has no negative effects on the liver, kidney, and stomach of the user.

  • Muscles Relaxation

The stiffness of muscles is responsible for some pains. CBD has pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effects which promote relaxation of the muscle. When used to promote relaxation of muscles, CBD causes no problem whatsoever while carrying out an exercise. It also has no negative effects on the user's yoga performance.

  • Sleep Disturbances

Pain causes injuries to the bodies nerves at all times. This imbalance has a negative impact on sleep as the body feels as if it’s faced with danger throughout the day and night.  Cannabidiol is a neuroprotective cannabinoid which assists the user to sleep quickly and stay asleep for as long as they want. The absence of sleep also results in anxiety problems.

  • Depression

Chronic pain is capable of causing depression. When cannabidiol is used to alleviate pain, it assists in ameliorating the symptoms of chronic pain and depression.

Generally, cannabidiol has been confirmed to play an important role in pain therapy and management. However, further research is required to establish the role it plays in influencing the pain-relieving activities of the ECS.
