ADHD is an Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The symptoms of the disorder include impulsivity, hyperactivity, and inability to focus on a task at hand. In most states, the adults are diagnosed with ADD that lacks the hyperactivity (ADHD) but it’s very similar to ADHD. In the United States, 1 out of 10 children are diagnosed with this disorder and this number has been growing extremely fast over recent years. The disorder usually occurs in children but can also occur in adults. Additionally, males are three times more likely to be diagnosed. Most importantly, the symptoms of individuals who have ADD and ADHD make it hard for them to pay attention, focus and concentrate. This affects their performance in school and work. Most of the time, individuals experience the effect that the disorder has on them and realize how much they can’t control their behavior even if they try. However, the problem is not with them but with their chemical imbalance in their brain.

Studies On ADHD and CBD

One study that was published in the Journal of Substance Use and Misuse in 2013 has shown that people have used CBD to self-medicate and it helped them to better manage their hyperactive and impulsive behaviors. The results of the study have persuaded researchers that CBD may be used as a therapeutic aid for people who suffer from ADHD. Another research study that was published in 2015 in Germany was looking at 30 patients with ADHD that were unresponsive to using Adderall or Ritalin. The results of that research showed that after using CBD most of the subjects had an improvement in concentration, reduced impulsively and sleep. Researchers say that regular medications are very demanding on patients that make them feel intoxicated but CBD is able to give them back the control so that they can love, work, and live without that feeling. That's not all, scientists have also linked ADHD with endocannabinoid deficiency. People who experience this deficiency have neurotransmitters that are working too slow which makes them sluggish to concentrate and focus. Most of the time the prescriptions prescribed to patients with ADHD and ADD are stimulant type medications such and Ritalin or Adderall but they have side effects. On the other hand, according to research CBD has been shown to relieve ADHD/ADD and side effects of the medications in the cases where people experience lack of appetite, nervousness, and inability to sleep well.
