Both G protein receptors are tasked with regulating the level of neuro-hormones in your body. They play an active role in many different physiological processes such as mood, memory, chronic pain, and regulating appetite. When they are introduced to receptors, they respond and produce desired changes.
The consequences in Medicine
The studies on direct effects of various phyto-cannabinoids of the body persist to date. Scientists have established that there are specific cannabinoids, which bind directly with specific receptors. For example, when exposed to THC, CB1 shows a significant reaction. Cannabidiol, however, does not show much a reaction or readiness to bind with either CB1 or CB2 receptors. It instead stimulates both of them and can only be limited by CBD. This means a reduction of the unwanted side effects of consuming high amounts of THC.
